A couple of months ago, I started to become interested in the wide range of journeys that people had taken in their careers, particularly in the business world. I’m sure that we’ve all heard that there is a “right way” to be successful in business and I find it cool when people don’t go the “right way” and still do well. In response to this interest, I posted a few entries about some of the non-standard paths that well-known people had taken and received some good feedback on those postings.

After that, this notion continued to dwell in my mind … Read the rest

What’s going on, everyone. I hope you’re all doing well. The email below is from a long-time reader of my blog who has finally decided to start the MBA application process. He was invited to complete an admissions interview by one of his schools and reached out to me for advice on how to approach it. He sent over 5 questions that he hoped would help him to get off on the right foot with his preparation.

Before you move on to read this entry, I have to give my standard caveat that I’ve never worked for an admissions office Read the rest

The email below comes from a reader who has been following my blog for a couple of years now. She reached out to me a few months back to let me know that she’d been admitted to Stanford GSB and we’ve exchanged a few emails since then. Now, she’s in the middle of her first quarter at the GSB and is a little worried as she approaches the summer internship recruiting process for Management Consulting. She’s asked for my advice on what she can do now to help prepare for her success in the process and, as my longtime readers… Read the rest

The message below was sent to me by a Platinum member of this site a couple of days and, as I always try to do for my Platinum members, I made sure to get a response to his email recorded and uploaded as quickly as I could.

The sender is a Canadian MBA aspirant who is planning to apply to business school during the 2011-2012 application cycle. In the meantime, he wants to do whatever he can to strengthen his overall application profile and is especially concerned about his low undergraduate GPA. He asked for some advice on how he … Read the rest

Hey, everyone. This is going to be a really quick entry to pass along info on a couple of items…literally, two things:

#1. After months of talking about it, I finally made time to create a set of guidelines for readers who email me for advice and perspectives on their issues. Before this point, I would repeatedly state my preferences for reader emails and people would ignore those statements over and over again, which would result in me restating them constantly and annoying other readers in the process. I guess that was all driven by my pledge to always respond … Read the rest

What’s going on, peoples. Hope you’re all doing well. I’m currently on a flight back to Chicago from NJ and I figured that I could get a little blogging done while I can’t do much else. I probably should just go to sleep, but I know I’d be up all night if I were to do that.

Anyways, in this entry, I wanted to pass along the link to an article that I recently came across about how many MBA applicants are choosing to opt for shorter MBA programs of 9-12 months in duration. Once upon a time, earning an … Read the rest

What’s going on, everyone. Earlier today, I was notified that I made a big misstep when I ported everything from my old Blogger-hosted site to this new version hosted on my own domain. I thought I’d covered all of the bases in the process, but I totally forgot about the people who had subscribed to my site through RSS feeds and followed my updates using feed readers. Those feeds all lead back to http://marquisweblog.blogspot.com and are not updated when I post new entries on here. Looks like I forgot to post a final entry over there with this new URL, … Read the rest
