Hey, everyone. Recently, the team at Campus Splash asked me to do a follow-up to the first article that I wrote for them, but, this time, they wanted me to take a different spin on the MBA game. For this new article, they wanted me to offer up a few good reasons for a college student to pursue an MBA. People who have followed this site for a while KNOW that this is a passion of mine, so I was all over this one.

This edition of the Conversations series features Kaneisha Grayson, a 2010 Harvard MBA/MPA and well-known blogger and entrepreneur. My long-time readers have seen me mention her on this site before, but, for my newer members, I’ll give a quick introduction.

Kaneisha is a long-time member of the MBA blogosphere, starting with her personal blog back in the day when she was approaching the MBA application process. She ended up gaining admission to a joint MBA/MPA program at Harvard and, during her time at Harvard, she became a relationship and dating advisor and launched Crazy Girl Nation, a site … Read the rest

OK, I know what you might be thinking after seeing the title of this entry…”What the hell is Marquis thinking in saying that an MBA is a waste of time and money”. Before running too hard on that line of thought, let’s slow down and take a step back. I think it’s obvious that I don’t agree with that statement because I wouldn’t have spent two years and a lot of loan money to get a Stanford MBA if I did. Rather, that line is the title of an article that I recently came across that piqued my interest because… Read the rest

I remember waaaaaaay back in the early 2000′s when the MBA degree was the thing to have. The MBA was supposed to be the ticket to a fantastic job in Finance/Consulting/Management that would be the first step on the road to eternal success in business, lots of money, and a network that most people would kill for. Getting into a top-20 business school was basically like winning one of Willy Wonka… Read the rest‘s golden tickets and being invited to play in his Chocolate Factory, which, in the case of the MBA, was supposed to be the Board rooms of major corporations

Hi, everybody. I’m making a quick post to pass along an article from the team over at Veritas Prep, the GMAT preparation company. The article gives a quick rundown of six courses that many alums of Stanford GSB would consider to be “must-have” classes for anyone interested in the school. I took three of the six courses listed in the article and I can verify that they are FANTASTIC! Of the three that I didn’t take, I would give just about anything to be able to go back in time and take two of them. It’s amazing how hindsight is… Read the rest

Hey, everyone. I hope you’re all having a good weekend so far. The submission below is from a reader who broke one of my “rules of engagement” by following up his initial email with another one basically asking me “Why is it taking you so long to respond?”…I thought about deleting both of his emails, but I found his questions to be interesting and possibly of use to others, so I decided to respond. The primary question that I answered was about the definition of “diversity” as it pertains to business school, particularly in terms of admissions. Most people assume… Read the rest

What’s good, folk. While working my way through my backlog of reader emails, I came across three messages that I was able knock out pretty quickly, so this entry will be followed by two other pretty short entries. Each of these entries will be all-text (i.e. no videos), but I may mix in some videos to make more progress in getting through my old emails. I’m SO far behind in that respect.

The email below is from a Round 1 applicant to the GSB and HBS who had a question about how to best submit supplemental recommendations for her B-school … Read the rest
