The email for this entry comes from an MBA aspirant who is trying to decide between applying for Stanford’s MBA/MA.Ed program or the JD/MBA program, but his email has nothing to do with questions about either kind of program. Rather, he’s wondering what my plans are, if any, to work in the for-profit education space. I seldom get emails asking about me, so I enjoyed responding to this one. I haven’t really figured out whether I’ll do any work in for-profit education in my career, so I described some of my very early thinking on the matter.

Hey there. I’m not going to include much of an intro to this entry because this is more in the category of “things that make me grin” than anything that most of you would consider productive.

The email below came in after I mentioned in my Sept 7th entry that I didn’t think people came to this blog to hear stories about me anymore. When the reader sent his email, he probably didn’t think much of it, but reading it truly left me with a smile on my face. After receiving so many emails where people are looking for me … Read the rest

What’s going on, everyone. I’d like to start this entry by passing along an interesting article that was posted on BusinessWeek.com a couple of weeks ago. The article is called
‘How to Write an MBA Admissions Essay’… Read the rest and the author breaks down the steps to compose a good B-school essay. When I first read the article, I found it to be pretty basic and didn’t think it would be useful to post up here. Then, I read it a second time a couple of weeks later and thought back to myself six years ago when I was approaching the MBA

What’s going on, y’all. I’m writing this entry with a big smile on my face because today was the second warm day in a row here in Chicago. That may be a weird thing to be happy about, but y’all weren’t here on those days when the temperature was in the -20′s a few months ago. Walking outside and not needing a coat here is amazing. I know that it’ll probably get ridiculously hot soon, but I’m loving the few days of Springtime weather that we’ll see in 2009. Even better, the folks outside just looked happier now that the… Read the rest

OK, I know that some of you are going to roll your eyes when you see this, but it made me smile so I’m going to post it…Gotta love getting nice shout-outs every now and then :-) This isn’t the first one of these I’ve ever received and I don’t post most of them, but this one caught me at the right time, so here it is…

Hey, folk. Just wanted to make a quick post about a couple of recent emails/comments from readers that brought a smile to my face.

The first is from KK, the reader who wrote the email from my most recent entry. To refresh your memory, KK is a college freshman who wants to move into Consulting and wanted advice to set himself up over the next few years. Most of the time, I don’t even get a “thank you” when I respond to emails, but KK hit me back a few hours after I sent my message, which honestly surprised me.… Read the rest

Hey, everybody. I know it’s been a while since I posted an entry, but that’s because I’ve been out of the country on vacation for the past nine days. I took a MAJOR trip out to India to attend the wedding of two of my Stanford GSB classmates and do some traveling in the few days before the festivities. I don’t even know if I can properly describe how BALLER the wedding day was…actually, I should say the wedding DAYS because the events ran from Friday afternoon through Monday afternoon. I’ve gone to nice weddings before, but none of them… Read the rest

Hey there, peoples. I hope you’re all having a nice weekend so far. This is going to be a relatively short entry, but it’ll direct you to a MUCH longer piece by me. Recently, I’ve received a couple of requests to do interviews for other blog sites and I just completed the first one for ManagementConsulted.com (I’ve mentioned it on here before). It still amazes me that people get something out of this blog, but, for it to have enough impact to warrant interview invites really makes me grin :-D

Some of the interview questions are ones that I’ve answered… Read the rest
