About Marquis

Marquis Parker is a business strategist, coach, advisor, mentor, and award-winning blogger on topics of MBA student life and admissions, careers, and business concepts. He has experience in formulating strategies and analyzing mission critical issues for companies ranging from governmental and public sector entities to global private sector organizations. Throughout his career, he has acquired a broad set of educational and career experiences grounded in Business, Strategy, Technology, Private Equity, and Education. In addition, Marquis has served as an advisor and/or Board member to several small businesses and non-profit organizations, including InstaSafe, McRae’s Foods, The Friends of Sinai Children’s Hospital, and Higher Praise Ministries.

Currently, Marquis is a Vice President of Global Operations for Aon Broking, which integrates the insurance broking infrastructure of Aon Risk Solutions across its retail, wholesale, and specialty businesses in 120 countries. Since joining Aon Corporation, a $11B provider of risk management, reinsurance, and human capital advisory services, in 2010, he has held leadership roles in strategy and business operations in 3 of its 4 operating business units, including a stint as a Vice President on the “special projects” team for Aon’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to joining Aon, Marquis developed his foundation of business, general management, and strategic skills through his work on critical issues in a range of industry and organizational contexts. After earning his MBA, Marquis worked for McKinsey & Company, the global management consultancy, as a Management Consultant in the firm’s Atlanta office. At McKinsey, he advised both private and public sector clients in the utilities, financial services, travel logistics, education, and petroleum industries. As a generalist, his client engagements covered a wide range of topics, including post-merger management, strategic planning, organization design, budgeting, performance transformation, growth strategy, and capacity planning operations. Following McKinsey, Marquis joined Waterstone Group Holdings, a Chicago-based private equity investment and strategic advisory holding company, where he advised portfolio companies of private equity firms in the Technology and Business Services industries.

Before completing his graduate studies, Marquis gained strategy consulting experience while completing an MBA summer internship in the Communications and High Tech industry area of Accenture’s Strategy Practice, where he developed a financial services market entry strategy for an enterprise software middleware product. During his pre-MBA career, he gained hands-on technology experience as a Java Software Engineer, first at Scient Corporation, an eBusiness consultancy, in NYC for two years followed by three years at FGM Inc, a software and systems engineering firm, in Reston, VA.

Marquis holds an A.B. in Computer Science from Princeton University, an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, an M.A. in Education from the Stanford University School of Education, and a M.S. in Management of Information Technology from the University of Virginia.
