Hey, everyone. Recently, the team at Campus Splash asked me to do a follow-up to the first article that I wrote for them, but, this time, they wanted me to take a different spin on the MBA game. For this new article, they wanted me to offer up a few good reasons for a college student to pursue an MBA. People who have followed this site for a while KNOW that this is a passion of mine, so I was all over this one.

In my last article for Campus Splash, I offered some ideas for things that one could do while in college to prepare for building a rockstar MBA application one day…in other words, the HOW of the business school application process. After that article, the Campus Splash team thought it would be interesting for me to share my thoughts on good and not-so-good reasons to go to business school, or the WHY of the business school application process. I thought the idea was great and reached out to several of my friends with MBAs so that I could add their opinions to the mix, as well.


I’ve structured my thoughts into 2 separate articles in order to not make it overwhelming. In this first article, I’ll walk through a few items that I believe to be strong motivations for pursuing an MBA. In the follow-up article, I’ll offer up some reasons that might not be the best ones to target business school. Some may disagree some of the items in either or both lists, but I doubt that anyone would give a thumbs-down to everything that I’m presenting.


As you start thinking your answer to the all-important “Why MBA?” question, I believe the following make up a strong basis for the WHY of the business school application process:
