A couple of weeks ago, I found the book in a box in my apartment and remembered that I’d neglected to follow through on my commitment to write a review. So, I re-read the book to get a refresher on it and decided that it was time to get the long-promised review done. The timing works out really well since we’re in the middle of the 2010-2011 MBA Round 1 and there is enough time for Round 1, 2, and 3 applicants to pick up the book, if desired. Fortunately, I have started leveraging videos, so the creation of the review was much faster than it would have been if I’d typed it out.
By way of background, the book was written by Chioma Isiadinso, who used to be on the Admissions Committee at Harvard Business School and has a wealth of experience in the MBA Admissions game. Ms. Isiadinso is now running her own admissions consulting firm and wrote the book as a way to compile many of her insights into a single package that can be consumed relatively quickly. The book is a little less than 300 pages, but it is a much quicker read than that length would indicate.
There’s a lot more that I can say about the book, but I’ll leave that to the video below to communicate…

My video review:
Book review The Best Business Schools Admissions Secrets from Marquis Parker on Vimeo.
Key points:
- Detailed review is given in the video, but overall thoughts on the book include the following:
–> The book is well-written with fantastic end-to-end structure that is maintained throughout
–> The author has no problem telling it like it is to get her point across
–> The author’s style is approachable and she comes across as a coach instead of an instructor
–> This is a great MBA prep book, especially for those who are at the very start of their MBA application journey
