I realize that some of the ideas presented in this video might be basic for some of you, but they certainly weren’t basic for me a couple of years ago and it made for a really stressful experience of interviewing in a totally ineffective way. Thank goodness that I was able to eventually figure this out after my post-McKinsey job search because it made my most recent interview experience MUCH more comfortable than it would have been otherwise.

Part 3: Interviewing
Strategic approach to the job search, Part III from Marquis Parker on Vimeo.
To improve one’s chances of success at interviewing, I’d recommend considering the following:
- Scheduling — Think about prep time, travel time, and recovery time
- Research — Perform deep company research and broad research on the overall industry, competitors, and the market
- Practice — Do mock interviews for the both the hard skills needed to do the job and the soft skills that will convince your interviewers that you’re a fit at the company
- Execution — Clear your mind and do your best during the interviews; Walk in knowing that the job CAN BE yours if you want it and don’t let a mistake during a single interview weigh you down during the rest of the interview process
- Feedback — Integrate feedback from successful and unsuccessful interviews to improve future performance
