What’s good, folks. I hope you’re all doing well. The email below is from a soon-to-be first-year MBA student that I met randomly a couple of years ago. At the time, he was just considering applying to business school, so I was pleasantly surprised to see an email from him saying that he had been admitted to school and would be starting soon. He wrote to me seeking advice on how to find an internship and, asmy long-time readers know, I have a LOT to say on that topic.

After watching my video response, I realize that this is one of my less-than-stellar ones, but I’m going to post it anyway because I did get the main message out. I’ll try to make my next one much more concise and focused though.

Marquis,

You may not remember me, but I met while working for Wachovia Bank about a year or two ago. You came in my office to open an account and we spoke about graduate school. First, I would like to say congratulations on the site, it looks awesome. Second, I just wanted to let you know i’ll be attending UGA in the Fall, so wish me luck!

Any advice on getting a summer internship? I know that companies are not doing as much internship recruiting, and was wondering if you had any advice based on your experience getting your internship with Accenture.

Best regards,

MH

Tips for approaching the MBA internships search from Marquis Parker on Vimeo.

Key points:
- Determine what you WANT to do and what you are WILLING to do, with an eye toward your short-term and long-term goals

- Develop your story, both the full version and the elevator pitch

- For an on-campus search, use the resources provided by your school

- For an off-campus search, start prepping and practicing for your interviews as early as possible, research your target firms, and leverage your networks for information, connections, and leads
