Hi Marquis:
I really enjoy your blog and I want to thank you for your great insightful posts.
This September I will graduate with a Master’s degree from a Tier-1 US school. My plan is to work in the Tech Industry (longterm goal CIO/CTO) or to become an Entrepreneur. I am also thinking about B-school in about 2 years.
Currently I have three offers from Google (Associate Product Manager), McKinsey (Business Analyst) and BCG (Associate).
Which offer provides more opportunities and more career trajectory?
Thanks for your time!
Best Regards

My video response:
Reader considering pre-MBA offers from Google McK and BCG from Marquis Parker on Vimeo.
Key points:
- Google, McKinsey, and BCG are all great options for after grad school and comparing them is essentially a comparison of Google versus Consulting; I’d say that the McK versus BCG choice is more about preferences and fit than anything
- McK/BCG before business school provides more flexibility for the longer term while Google would be a great way to establish an anchor to Technology
- One issue to consider is the possibility that his career plans to work in the Tech industry long term may change; If so, then it might not be best to establish a Tech anchor this early in his career
- All of these options offer great opportunities and career trajectory, but, if I were faced with these options, I would go with McK/BCG due to the flexibility offered in the near-term and the ability to make a deeper dive into Tech later on after B-school
