As some of you may know, U.S. News and World Report has released its 2011 list of top B-Schools and a certain FANTASTIC school out in Palo Alto has made its way to the top of the list this year…Well, I should say that Stanford GSB is sharing the top spot with HBS, but it just sounds better to say that the GSB is the king of the mountain for the year :-D

The top-15 B-schools in the 2011 US News and World Report rankings are as follows:

1. Harvard Business School
1. Stanford Graduate School of Business
3. MIT Sloan
4. Kellogg / Northwestern
5. Chicago / Booth
5. Wharton / UPENN
7. Tuck / Dartmouth
7. Haas / Berkeley
9. Columbia Business School
9. NYU / Stern
11. Yale SOM
12. Ross / Michigan
13. Darden / UVA
14. Fuqua / Duke
15. Anderson / UCLA

The schools listed in the top-15 are pretty much the “usual suspects”, but some of the shifts in the actual rankings for this year surprised me. MIT Sloan came up big by moving into the #3 spot and Wharton’s drop down to #5 was a shocker that had me like :-o I wonder what led to those two schools making their respective up/down moves. It may seem like only two ranking places, but, when you’re dealing with the top-5 slots, a move up or down by two places can be a pretty big deal. NYU Stern also made a big move to break back into the top-10 schools after having been #11 last year. Also, Yale SOM continued its rise in the rankings over the past few years with its #11 position.

It’s amazing how much these rankings can change over a long period of time. I still remember when Fuqua was in the top-10 back in the day when I was approaching the MBA application process. I guess these B-schools have to stay on the top of their stuff because the competition out there is really fierce! Wow, I remember that I used to live and breathe by these rankings leading up to my MBA application cycle. Now, it’s just fun to look at them and come up with some random comments about them :-)
