What’s going on, peoples. Hope you’re all doing well. I’m currently on a flight back to Chicago from NJ and I figured that I could get a little blogging done while I can’t do much else. I probably should just go to sleep, but I know I’d be up all night if I were to do that.

Anyways, in this entry, I wanted to pass along the link to an article that I recently came across about how many MBA applicants are choosing to opt for shorter MBA programs of 9-12 months in duration. Once upon a time, earning an MBA in such a short time was a surefire sign of a diploma-mill type of situation because there weren’t any reputable schools offering those shorter MBA programs. Now, as the article describes, that trend has changed in the past few years as more universities have begun to offer this more direct path to an MBA for folks who have a business undergrad and don’t really need two years worth of courses to get it done. This isn’t something that would have worked for me because I didn’t know the first thing about business when I hopped into this game, but that could be an option for some of you out there. Check out the article linked below for more information…

Title: “The Shorter, Faster, Cheaper MBA”

Excerpt from intro text:

“This type of business school journey is becoming more and more common for a growing number of students, who are tossing aside convention and opting for a shorter and more intensive business school experience at roughly half the price of a traditional two-year program. The condensed time frame of a one-year MBA program, coupled with a more attractive price tag, is proving to be irresistible for many students in this economy, say admissions officers and MBA program directors. A number of U.S. business schools that offer the accelerated programs say that applications were up significantly last year, with enrollment at record levels at some schools. And worldwide, nearly 70% of one-year MBA programs reported an increase in applications this year, according to the latest application trend survey from the Graduate Management Admission Council. To meet growing student demand for these programs, more and more schools are expanding their MBA offerings to include one-year programs, with some adding programs just in the last few months. “

  1. The Oxford MBA (http://www.sbs.ox.ac.uk/degrees/mba/Pages/default.aspx) has always taken only a year. This follows with the English academic tradition of shorter programmes (e.g., most Masters courses take a year, and undergraduate ones three years).
