A few days ago, one of my long-time readers, DP, emailed me an really interesting article about a GSB alum from the Class of 1972 and the lessons he learned during his time there. The article, entitled “What they used to teach you at Stanford Business School” (click on the link to see the article), had me thinking back on my own time there and I realized that, even though the professors’ names are different, the lessons are surprisingly consistent with some of my key takeaways. The article made
Happy Monday, everyone. Actually, Monday is almost over, but that’s reason to celebrate since this is the day of the week that everyone dreads most, right? I actually have started enjoying Mondays lately because a group of my GSB folk started a routine of gathering for dinner and goofing off a few weeks ago and it’s been hella fun. It’s a great way to unwind after a Monday in the office and, most of all, it’s great because I wouldn’t
Hello all. Wow, I sure am on a roll in the month of March, aren’t I? And, four entries posted this week alone too.
I’m typing this email yet again from about 35,000 feet, but this time I’m on my way back to Chicago from a business trip down South. Once upon a time, traveling for work used to wear me out, but, now that I don’t have to do it often, I actually enjoy the travel experience again.
What’s good, y’all. You know, I just realized that I’ve been making blog postings at a decent rate so far in the month of March. Part of that is because I’ve been posting emails/comments from readers and haven’t had to think through responses for them, but it’s still good to be making regular updates. Plus, I’ve had much more time to just kick back and chill since starting my new job, which makes it a little easier to address reader
Hey, folk. Just wanted to make a quick post about a couple of recent emails/comments from readers that brought a smile to my face.
The first is from KK, the reader who wrote the email from my most recent entry. To refresh your memory, KK is a college freshman who wants to move into Consulting and wanted advice to set himself up over the next few years. Most of the time, I don’t even get a “thank you” when I respond to emails, but KK hit me back a few hours after I sent my message, which honestly surprised… Read the rest
Hey, people. I’m typing this entry from about 35,000 feet in the air on a flight to Chicago after spending the weekend visiting my family back in the great state of Virginia. It was a really quick trip, but it was nice because I’ve found myself wanting to get back there more as I get older. Plus, it’s nice to just sit around and be a bum for a few days. I did have to grind on stuff for work
For the past two weeks, my mother has been on me to write up a description of my trip to India, but I’ve been ridiculously busy in the two weeks since my return. Basically, my trip was split into two parts. The first was five days of sight-seeing and bouncing around a few cities with five other people to get the lay of the land. The second part was four days of wedding celebration activities in Jaipur for two
What’s up, folk. This is a short entry to tell you about a hilarious entry on another blog that is similar to an entry I’ve posted here before. Remember when I wrote about relationships in business school a while back (http://marquisweblog.blogspot.com/2008/12/looking-backcommentary-on-relationships.html)? My original post was made in June 2005, but, when I found out a few months ago that it was being passed around the MBA applicant circle, I reposted it back in December. Well, one of my readers
Ahhhhh, gotta love weekends, right? And, from what I hear, this weekend is a big one in Chicago because of the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations that seem to be an institution here. There’s going to be a huge parade here later today and, at some point, the city will put die into the river that cuts through downtown and turn it green…that’s right, the river will be green! Unfortunately, I might miss a lot of the festivities because I’ll be
What’s going on, y’all. Since coming back from India, I’ve been trying to get my mental clock back in order, but it sure has been difficult. I’ve usually done OK with recovering from spending a few days in a far-away time zone, but coming back from a nine-day trip is a BEAST!!! Hopefully, I’ll be able to knock out a couple more reader emails this coming weekend as my sleep schedule rights itself.
Anyways, the message below is from
