Hey, everyone. I don’t know if anyone has been following the news surrounding Oscar-winning actress and singer Jennifer Hudson, but it is such a tragedy. As if losing her mother and brother wasn’t enough, officials just confirmed that her 7-year old nephew was lost, as well (Link to article). I hope everyone will send their thoughts and prayers to her family in this time of sadness. There are some truly sick people in this world and I hope the

What’s going on, everyone. I’m writing this entry from the great state of VA, where I’m visiting my family for the weekend. I know I’ve been bringing up the election a lot lately, but it’s because this is probably the most important election of our lifetimes. As I was driving up here, I passed through a lot of the small towns and was shocked at the number of McCain-Palin signs I saw. I must have seen about a million “Virginia

Did any of you see the story about the McCain campaign volunteer who claimed to have been attacked by an Obama supported who carved a “B” into her face? I believe the story came out yesterday and the McCain campaign rode the waves of it to their advantage…

Well, it turns out that the McCain volunteer made the whole thing up…A GIANT HOAX!!! This is just plain ridiculous. My mom advised me not to put political stories or comments

Hello all, I just received the following link from one of my classmates who recently started working at a start-up in Washington DC called Positive Energy. According to its website, the company’s description is:

“Positive Energy was founded on a simple premise: it’s time to engage the 300 million Americans who are in the dark about their energy use.

Positive Energy is working to accomplish this through a combination of cutting edge technology, analytic direct marketing, behavioral science

Hey there, everyone. I don’t know how many of you noticed my post from earlier this week about the three GSB students who recently passed away, but I still can’t get my mind off of it. The GSB community is a tight-knit one and, even though I didn’t know those kids, their passing has hit me as if I did. I just can’t stop thinking about how I would have reacted if something similar had happened while I was in

What’s good, peoples. I’ve gotten a few really cool emails and comments since posting my entry about poverty a few days ago and thought the comment below should be shared. If anyone out there is looking to become a mentor to a student, check out the blog below. I haven’t read through all of the articles yet, but, based on my first quick glance, there’s some good content on that site.

What’s going on, everyone. I’m not sure if anyone noticed the “Blog Action Day” banner I added to this site last month, but it’s an initiative driven by bloggers across the Web to get the word out about a particular issue. On one day per year, bloggers are supposed to write an entry about a topic to get their readers to think about something outside of themselves and of importance to the world at large. Well, today October 15 is

Hey there, everyone. I hope you’re all doing well. The email below is a follow-up from a reader who sent me a query over the summer. I actually wrote my response below to him about a month ago, but, somehow, the email got lost in one of my folder, so I’m just now getting to posting it. His questions are general enough that other folks might benefit from my responses, so here we go…

I received the following article from one of my GSB’07 friends this morning and my mind hasn’t been right ever since. I didn’t know any of these kids, but I feel so sad for their families, loved ones, and classmates. The GSB community is like a family, so we really feel it when something like this happens. My condolences go out to all of their loved ones.

What’s good, peoples. I hope you’re all having a nice weekend. The email below is from a reader with pre-MBA experience in consulting and private equity who wonders how well Stanford would set him up to return to PE. I’m far from an expert at the topic, but I did my best to give a response. He also asked me a question about my thought process when applying to Stanford which is something I’ve written about on here many times
