What’s up, y’all. As some of you may have noticed, I started this blogging thing four years ago this month and, in that time, my stuff’s probably been read by a few thousand people (I’m not sure because I’ve never added a counter). So, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised or embarrassed when I get recognized when I’m out and about. Well, it happened again today and I couldn’t keep myself from grinning and feeling surprised when it happened. Here’s what went down…
So, I just happened to be working in the ATL office at the end of the day and I heard a bunch of commotion going on downstairs in the office atrium. When I looked down to investigate, I saw that some kind of reception was going on and I decided to go down to grab some food to take back to my team room. When I got to the bottom of the steps, I heard my name and turned
around to find my man Richard motioning me over. It turns out that the reception was an information session for a big group of first-year students from Fuqua B-School. Richard asked if I’d be down to participate in a panel discussion at the event and y’all know how I like talking to folks, so I joined the panel.
The panel consisted of myself and three coworkers and the kids asked us a bunch of questions about our experiences at McK, why we chose to work there, and a bunch of other info about the Firm. As usual, I gave very honest answers to the questions and, while some of my comments may have been ‘non-standard’, y’all know that they were all real.
After the panel discussion, the session broke up into small groups where the students could ask individual questions. So, I was fielding questions from a group of about 15 kids and was asked ‘Do you have a blog?’. I responded ‘yes’ and the dude who asked the question told me that he’d been reading this joint for over a year. Furthermore, he said that reading my entries was what made him interested in pursuing consulting after B-school and he came across and gave me a big handshake. Then, two or three others remarked that they’d been regular readers for a while too. The students who read this blog were saying things like ‘I can’t believe I’m meeting you in person’, ‘you’ve been such a help’, and ‘your entries are so great because you give the real deal’. Ooooooh lawd, for a while, I couldn’t stop myself from grinning and, even better, it hit me that my words are still helping people after all these years.
I’d been thinking about closing out the blog recently, especially after that one dude asked me to answer an application essay for him and expected me to be too dumb to realize that it was actually from a Bschool’s app. But now, I feel like there’s a little more run left in this fingers so you’ll have some stuff to read for just a little while longer

Am sure it is a pleasant surprise at that. Do keep blogging Marquis, it does help a lot of people.
Marquis
Please do keep blogging. I am a second year student at McCombs. Your entries about your interview experiences have been extremely useful in clearing a couple of first round consulting interviews and I hope they will help me nail the offers as well.
thank you!

Very cool!
Hi Marquis, I was one of the Fuqua students that day at McKinsey so it was awesome to see this post. I’m glad the food caught your eye and that Richard was able to get you to stay
I have only poked around a few of entries so far but I especially liked Prize4Life and am looking forward to exploring some more. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
No! You can’t shut this blog down…can you?
Okay, so I finally found your blog. Nice blog so far. Very interesting and very real.
.
Keep it up.
I’m also one of the Fuqua Students that came down. Although, I wouldn’t refer to myself as a Kid
