As my long-time readers know, I was born in raised in Virginia and have shouted it out many times on this blog. By now, I’m sure everyone has heard about today’s shootings at Virginia Tech, which is being called the largest massacre in American history. According to my mother, no one connected to our family was injured in the shootings, but I’m still typing this entry with a heavy heart. I hate that this had to happen to kids who were doing nothing but trying to pursue educations. My thoughts and prayers are with anyone back home in VA who’ve been directly affected by this tragedy.

  1. Rev. Catherine (mom) says:

Son, my prayers are also with those familes that have lost loved ones, innocent children. My prayers are also with the family that has to live with the fact that their loved one committed this crime. In a world so marked by confusion, sometimes hatred, sometimes loneliness or maybe even people filled with an emptiness they can’t explain, maybe a void … if only they would fill it up with Jesus … His Love. Long life here on earth is not promised to us but we do have a choice of where we spend our eternity. So, live, love and enjoy those God allows to enter your lives. When I heard about what had happened, all I could think about was my baby girl who was on another campus only 1 1/2 hours away. Keep praying …

Dear Marquis: I may be cynical, but I tend to believe that good public policy helps a helluva lot more than prayers. I commented today on the Economist article advocating decent gun control laws in America, and I invite your readers to read the original article themselves. Here’s my post: http://livepaola.wordpress.com/2007/04/21/the-virginia-tech-tragedy-and-the-debate-america-ought-to-be-having/
