The following comment was left on my last entry and I thought it was a good candidate to be made into a posting:

Hi,

This isn’t really related to your entry…but I’ve been reading some of your posts and wanted to ask about your thoughts on pursuing an MBA straight out of undergrad? I just got an offer for a Bain internship this summer (I’m an engineering student at Caltech) and I’d like to try to apply to business school in the fall. Some have advised against it saying that the top business schools require you to… Read the rest

One of my friends from college recently sent me the following email about some great work that a couple of Stanford MBA/MA.Ed graduates are doing with a school in Africa. I liked her email so much that I wanted to post it here and steal a quote from it for the title :-)

(Good luck with your Bschool applications, “T”)

Hey Marquis,

I check your blog every now and then and I came across something in which your readers may be interested. It is the African Leadership Academy, started by two Stanford GSB/Ed. grads. McKinsey is representing as well.… Read the rest

Whew, I sure have been getting a lot of exposure to cold temperatures lately and it is killing me. I’m writing this post from NYC and I’ve got another story for you from the realms of “It sure can be tough to be a Black dude in America”. Last night, I had to meet a friend for dinner at a restaurant that was only about 10-12 blocks from my hotel, but I was reluctant to walk the distance because the temperature was down around 10 degrees. So, I went to the closest corner heading downtown and spent about 10 minutes… Read the rest

I was contacted by an Oxford MBA student who is looking for folks to fill out an online survey to help with a project. I know that there are several current MBA students reading this blog, so, if you’ve got time, please help them out. Take care.

Dear Marquis–

I am currently an Oxford University MBA and we have a project where we must
propose an Entrepreneurial Project and write a business plan for it. My
group is proposing the launch of a magazine aimed specifically at the top 20
MBA programs throughout the world. We are looking to… Read the rest

Hey everyone. I’m writing this entry to share the link to a blog that my man Doug has started about the energy industry. I’m not sure how many of you are interested in that area, but, for those that are, he’s writing some really good stuff in here:

I had a couple of comments posted on my last entry that I thought might be worth posting an open response to. I hope some others get some insight from these questions…

“Hello. I’m curious to know what made you get an MA in Education in conjunction with your MBA. I was looking at your profile and it seems your background is in Computer Science/Engineering, and now work at McKinsey. How does your degree in Education help you in your current job? Do you recommend future Stanford GSB’ers to do this dual degree option?”

Recently, a few people have contacted me with questions about the Stanford joint degree MBA/MA.Ed program and this post is probably the sort of thing they would be interested in. Others will probably be interested too, but this will definitely catch the eye of folks interested in Education.

Yesterday, I found out that one of my professors from the Stanford School of Education, Prof. Michael Kirst, has his own blog up and I wanted to give him a quick plug here. The link to his site is:

Here’s a quick description of what he discusses on his site:

OK, so I guess that everyone in the world knows that today is the biggest day of the year for sports fans, right? Yup, that’s right…it’s Super Bowl Sunday. But guess where I’m writing this entry from…a seat on a place en route from SFO to ATL at about 30,000 feet in the air. Even worse, kickoff for the Super Bowl is only about 45 minutes away and we’ve got about an hour and a half before we land. Trust me, this is not the ideal timing for a sports fan to be in the air. My flight was originally… Read the rest
