What’s up, folks. I’m writing this entry from a plane from SFO on my way back to the client site in the Midwest after having participated in the McKinsey Meet The Company presentation for the GSB’s first-year students. This trip to Palo Alto should have been routine since I’ve been back to recruit for MBA2′s, but it felt different this time because I was actually talking to a class of folks who had no clue who I was. I swear it made me feel SO OLD to see a new class of folks coming into the GSB right after having graduated myself. I felt proud to have made it through the GSB and to be able to return and represent for the Firm. Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while know how hard I worked to get a spot at McK, so you can likely understand how good it was to introduce myself as an Associate.

When I walked into the Schwab Dining Hall for the session, the first thing I noticed was that it was a packed house…standing room only. There were a LOT of kids interested in the Firm and, while they all seemed interested in McK, some of them were hecka nervous when I spoke to them. Thinking back to where I was at this time two years ago, I could understand when some of the students I spoke with seemed extra nervous about the upcoming summer internship recruiting process. I tried my best to give them detailed information about my own experiences, but, because of Firm recruiting rules, I had to make sure I didn’t mention certain things, such as specific case books and resources, details about the review process, and specifics about my client. As y’all know by now, I am pretty much an open book, so it was tough to put limits on what I said, but I was able to do so successfully. As a Black alum, I was excited to see 6 BBSA students at the reception because diversity is definitely needed in the Consulting industry and I hope I can help those folks learn the case interview game through my BCSS recruiting role before they have to face their first rounds in January. Man, it is so weird to be making these trips back as an alum…it makes something that happened only 5 months ago (i.e. my graduation) seem like it took place ages ago.

By the way, I want to send a quick shout out to Ash, who is another MBA blogger and is a new first-year at the GSB. Thanks for finding me in the post-MTC reception and introducing yourself. It was nice to meet you and pretty funny to see that I could be recognized yet again from this blog :-)
