First official day in the office

This is going to be a really short entry because my first day in the office was rather uneventful. I’m starting out “on the beach”, which is a consulting term for “unstaffed”. Over the weekend, I was a little bummed about that, but, in hindsight, it was good because it gave me a chance to do a lot of little things like get my voicemail set up, find a doctor, sign up for rental car loyalty programs, and find a real estate agent (to save me from the drama I wrote about in my last post). That time on the beach may end soon though because I got an email from an Engagement Manager who is interested in bringing me on her project, so my next post may be a notice that I’ve got something to work on starting next week :-)

Before I roll, I wanted to drop a link to the consulting preparation slides that I created about a month ago. I’ve already emailed these to about 50 folks so I could get feedback and I think they’re ready for me to put out here for people to download whenever they’re ready to jump into the consulting game. If you’ve got any feedback about how I can improve it after reading the content, please leave a message to let me know. Here are the slides

Sounds like things are starting out great! And thanks for the slides — they are very helpful.

Don’t worry about the beach. Believe me, this will be the last time you have a few days in your office. Most likely, as soon as you’re staffed you will wish you were back on the beach for a few more days. So please try to enjoy it, you will work a lot soon enough, this may be your last rest in a long time!

Thanks marquis for sharing the slides. I wasnt one of the nice people sending comments – havent had time since now to check them, I’ve been ‘busy’ on vacation. Now back home and switching to MBA mode, so soon will read them. Again, thanks for sharing the slides on the net, as I see this as something of value.

    Best luck at work!
