Goodbye to the life of a student and hello to the Real World

I’ve got to warn you that this is the longest blog entry I’ve ever written…BY FAR!!!

————————-

As I mentioned earlier, this will be the last official MBA entry of this blog because school is over and there isn’t much more about the B-school experience that I can share. Since I started this thing in Oct 2003, I’ve literally undergone a transformation from the “anti-professional” to a business professional. OK, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but it really isn’t too far off. When I started applying to schools, I was essentially a software coder who:

Preparing to say goodbye to Palo Alto

OK, this is going to be a pretty short entry, but I thought it was worth it to give a shout out to the Bay area for being my home for the past two years. I’m going to be flying back to ATL on Monday and that’ll be the official end to my life in Palo Alto. It took me a while to get used to being out here and I was really nervous about being so far away from all my family, but I had a great two years here and I’m actually going to miss this place. It… Read the rest

Upcoming change to the format of this blog

I’ll start this out by thanking the aspiring Consultants who’ve been reading and have offered to give me feedback about my case interview preparation slides. Once I have them bulletproof, I’m hoping that they’ll be able to help a lot of people in the future.

For the past (almost) three years, this blog has been all about describing the business school application process, academic experience, and battlefield that is recruiting. I’ve written a ton more than I ever thought I would about my own ups and downs and I hope that it’s been helpful. For a while, I thought about… Read the rest

The NBPA program study session

What’s up, everyone. I’m here with a short recap of the National Basketball Players Association executive education program study group session I participated in last night. The program was attended by current and former players and administrators from the NBPA and, from the ones I spoke to, they’ve all got a common desire to learn about business. The session started with a pre-dinner reception, where I had a great conversation with one of the regional directors of the NBPA who is based in ATL…I’m hoping to link up with him once I get back down there in a few days.… Read the rest

Back in California for a few days

After a few days getting my new pad set up in ATL, I’m back in California to get a little more time in the Bay before starting work. While I’m here, I’m planning to spend time kickin’ it with my GF and other Bay area-based friends, but I’m also going to be helping out with a cool new program that the GSB has started up this summer.

For those that don’t know, business schools, including the GSB, make a ton of money on doing ezecutive education and often run a lot of exec ed programs during the summer months while… Read the rest

For those preparing for Consulting interviews

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to make a post about the updates that I made to the Consulting Case Interview Preparation materials I posted on here a few months back. I went back tot he drawing board and tried to cover as much about the process as I could based on what I did wrong during my internship process and what I did right during my full-time recruiting process. Instead of uploading the slides and posting a link on here, I’ve decided to email them to people individually if they’d like to take a look at them. That way, I… Read the rest

ATL has a new resident

At long last, I’ve finally moved into my place in Atlanta and the transition from B-school to the Real World is almost complete. Moving here has been a long process and it’s good to almost be finished with it. I started by shipping a bunch of boxes to my mom’s house in VA right before graduation back in June. She kept them in her garage for me until Friday when I flew to VA, rented a van, and loaded everything into the back of it. My GF flew in yesterday to accompany me on the drive down to ATL and… Read the rest

A great new feature from the folks at Meebo

Back in September, I introduced you guys to a great site that provides a web interface to use instant messaging clients called Meebo.com… Read the rest. The company was founded by one of my GSB classmates, Seth S., who actually left the GSB back during Fall quarter to work on Meebo fulltime. A lot of people doubted his choice, but something told me that he was onto something good. Well, almost a year later, Meebo has become a huge success and I couldn’t be prouder to know that one of my friends took such a leap and was able to do it

Phil Knight has donated $105M to Stanford GSB!!!

Wow, Phil Knight REALLY gives me something to aspire to. I can’t wait until I follow in his footsteps and can donate that much to Stanford GSBB-School. I just wish I could be around to see the new campus when it’s built.

Helping a friend publicize her new company

I’m putting up a quick entry to help a friend of mine from Princeton, Jackie B., promote a new publishing company that she launched a few months back. After finishing law school, Jackie decided to pursue her passion for media and made the move toward entrepreneurship by founding PawPrint Publications… Read the rest (a semi-acronym for “Professional, Aspirational Women’s Print Publications”). The first main offering from the company is a monthly e-zine called “Impressions” that is geared toward young professional female segment of the populations.
