I’m back in California

I’m writing this entry from good ol’ Palo Alto, where it is blazing hot!!! I was always a fan of the Bay area for its cool whether but that was before I’d spend time out here during the summer. All of the cool and mild weather I’d gotten used to during my academic periods at the GSB has gone away and it has been replaced by heat. I’ve only got a few more weeks until I move out to ATL, but something tells me that I’ll be ready for “Hot-lanta” from spending my time dealing with this Cali heat…usually without the benefit of air conditioning.

At long last, my search for a place in ATL from across the country has ended. On Friday, I signed a lease for a 2-bedroom place in downtown ATL for my first six months in the city before I start looking for a place to buy. The process of finding a furnished place in a city that I didn’t know from 3000 miles away was a pain in the neck, so it feels great to finally be done with it. Thank goodness for two resources that I found incredibly helpful…Craig’s List and a friend of my GF’s who lives in ATL and was able to visit prospective apartments for me. With that out of the way, I’ve got to tackle the task of getting my car shipped out to ATL (there’s no way I’m making that cross country drive again) and shipping the last of my things to my mother’s house for me to pick up in a few weeks. Goodness, moving (especially moving so far away) is torture!!!

By the way, for those of you in the Bay area who are considering pursuing business school, I might have a resource that you’ll find useful. A few years ago, the National Black MBA Association and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs teamed up to create an annual conference that takes place in regional areas all over the country. The resulting conference, the L.E.A.D. Conference (Leadership, Education, And Diversity), is going into its third year and is still taking place across the country. The Northern California LEAD Conference will take place on Saturday July 22, 2006 at the eBay Conference Center (2161 North 1st Street, San Jose, CA) from 8:30am to 3pm. The website for the Northern California conference is http://leadconference.com/2006/index.html and you can register for the event there. I attended the first LEAD Conference in Washington DC back in 2004 and found it to be a very informational event. This year, I’ll be serving on a Pre-MBA informational panel at the Northern California event on the 22nd and it looks like the entire day will be full of useful panels and other information. I hope you guys find this lead helpful.

One more thing…For those of you looking at Consulting as a career, I’m in the process of revising the consulting case prep presentation I uploaded a few months ago to make it more comprehensive. I’ll probably upload the new version in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for it.
