Remember when i said that the regional newspaper for my hometown was going to do an article on me? Well, the article came out last Sunday and I’ve been slacking on posting it. I had been waiting to see if some errors in fact from the article would be edited in the online version, but that didn’t happen. My mother suggested that I just list the miskews and post the link, so here are the things that were mistakes in the article:
- “High school graduation was nine years ago for Marquis [X]” –> Actually, my high school graduation was 11 years ago
- “[He] explained that he had a lot of consonants on his academic record–C’s–and he wanted vowels–A’s.” –> This was pretty much correct, but I had a mix of B’s and C’s on my transcript at the time…the “Quest for the Vowel” was SO real!
- “He graduated from Princeton with a 3.7 grade-point average.” –> I earned a 3.7 GPA for my senior year, but my overall GPA was nowhere near that.
- Regarding my time at UVA, “[He] graduated in 2003 with a master’s in management of Internet technology.” –> The degree that I got from UVA was a M.S. in “Management of Information Technology”, not “Management of Internet Technology”
- “By the time he graduated this spring, the former King George resident had five offers for jobs in management consulting.” –> By the time I finished my job search, I ended up with three offers out of the five firms that I’d interviewed with.
Despite these errors in the article, it still turned out pretty well. My mother ended up sending it out to hundreds of her friends and, according to her, the story has been inspiring a lot of folks back in the area where I grew up. If you’re interested in a quick read, here the link to the article

And YOUR MOTHER gets to comment first! Marquis, I am so, so proud of you, I really am. You and your sisters have made me smile so often when I could could have been crying. The Scripture says that we are FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE and I’ve watched over the years as GOD delicately grooms you into what He desires you to be. I know there were mistakes in that article but it didn’t take away from the “real” Marquis. Anyone who truly knows you will appreciate the article as they have appreciated you … the rest, oh well … don’t worry about it. Keep doing what you’re doing son, inspire the world, continue to share what you’ve been GIVEN and don’t hold back because GREATER IS HE THAT IS WITHIN YOU THAN “he” THAT IS IN THE WORLD. I say all this to say … Kathy didn’t mention how you really made it through, so I had to give GOD the glory!!!!!!!! Love you much and again … PROUD OF YOU!
Oops! … see … anyone can make a mistake, even your mom … the “could could” … I was so excited that I didn’t proof! … think this could have happened to “ole girl” as you would call her? ;-D
