Another weekend comes to a close

The time got away from me this weekend, so this will be the only entry that I right before the start of this coming week. it’s been a busy weekend, but a relaxing one, which was welcome after the hectic nature of the past few weekends.

As promised earlier, I’ve got to give you guys a rundown of the GSB Show, which was absolutely off the hook! Traditionally, the show is held at one of the auditoriums on campus, but, this time, it was held at a real theatre at a local high school. The place was huge and there had to have been at least 500 people in that joint. One of the constraints that was presented because of the location was that there could be no alcohol on the premises or else the show would be shut down. I was a little afraid that someone might try to sneak stuff in, but everyone respected the rules and it was a soberly viewed show (I heard the afterparty was off the hinges though). One of the organizers of the show told me that it was supposed to run for about 2 hours and 15 minutes, but it actually went for about 3.5 hours and the whole thing was good. I can’t think of any part of it that wasn’t entertaining. There were so many great performances that I can’t even give y’all a full description of it. Some of my favorites were the Bollywood dance routine, the Hip-hop dance routine, the “Cold-hearted snake” dance joint, the Solid Gold Dancers, and the Consultant Dating Game…if you want details, find a GSB student and ask for a full rundown. The video skit that my roommates and I did was a total mystery to me because I didn’t see it until Friday night, but it came together well and we seemed to have people rolling. I can’t go into details about what the skit was, but trust me when i say that it had “us” written all over it :-) I wish i could come back to see the Show next year, but that won’t be possible…looks like this is one more of those “rights of passage” things that I’ll be experiencing between now and graduation day. Shoot, I’ve got to make sure I get my hands on a copy of the DVD of the Show because this is one that I want to remember for a long time.

One last thing…I want to send a congratulations shout out to my man Sean and his lady Kuleni who got engaged last night after 4+ years together. Sean (along with his best friend Kumi) have been two of our most inspirational classmates because of their singular focus on being entrepreneurs and making a way for themselves instead of jumping into the job market after school. These cats have taught me a lot about what it takes to be successful in business and i couldn’t be happier for Sean right now. Plus, his fiancee will be a first year at HBS this coming year, so they’re going to be one of those major power couples out there in the world…I just hope they’ll keep a job open for me one of these days :-) Sean had a surprise brunch for a bunch of his and Kuleni’s friends in SF, with the surprise being that they’d gotten engaged at Pebble Beach. Times like this let me know that good things truly do happen to good people.
